TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the labor law, in relation to prohibition of certain
activities in extreme temperatures
PURPOSE:
Prohibits retail businesses to direct an employee to engage in human
billboard activities during extreme temperatures.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends the labor law by adding section 218b to prohibit
certain activities in extreme temperatures. Defines "retail businesses."
"consumer goods," "extreme weather," and "human billboard".
Section 2: Sets effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
When temperatures reach ninety degrees or more, they pose a real and
serious health risk for employees who engage in human billboard activ-
ities. Prolonged heat exposure causes body temperature to soar, and heat
illnesses may result, including the most serious: heatstroke.
