TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting
peace officer status to uniformed court officers in the town of Montgom-
ery
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
This bill would grant uniformed court officers employed by the town of
Montgomery peace officer status.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends Section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law by adding a
new subdivision 87. Employees of the town court of the town of Montgom-
ery serving as uniformed court officers at such town court; provided,
however, that nothing in this subdivision shall be deemed to authorize
such officer to carry, possess, repair or dispose of a firearm unless
the appropriate license therefor has been issued pursuant to section
400.00 of the penal law.
Section 2: States the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill would grant peace officer status to uniformed court officers
in the town of Montgomery, along with all of the privileges that come
with such status in order to properly protect and secure the town court.
