TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the penal law, in relation to requiring the division of
state police to send renewal notices to holders of a license to carry or
possess a pistol or revolver before expiration of such license
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
Requires the division of state police to send renewal notices to holders
of a. license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver at least ninety
days before expiration of such license.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of the bill directs the division of state police to keep a
record of the dates of expiration for all licenses to carry or possess a
pistol or revolver issued under this section and shall send a notice to
each such license holder at least ninety days before the expiration.
Section 2 establishes the effective data.
JUSTIFICATION:
Notice will allow a license holder to renew such license in a timely
manner and protect the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens.
