TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in
relation to increasing fines for individuals who fail to comply with a
stop work order
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To ensure that proper penalties are issued for individuals that violate
law.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends section 28-207 of the administrative code of the city
of New York, as amended by section 2 of part A of local law number 126
to add a civil penalty for any person who fails to comply with a stop
work order in the amount of ten thousand dollars for the initial
violation and then twenty thousand dollars for every subsequent
violation, to be paid to the department.
Section 2 provides the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Stop work orders are issued when there are safety concerns and/or
violations of the law. They are a way to protect workers, residents, and
the public, along with buildings and properties. Increasing fines for
stop work orders issued in NYC is an important step in deterring
violations of the orders. This legislation aims to mitigate violations
of stop work orders by increasing the penalties.

EFFECTIVE DATE:
