TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the executive law, in relation to requiring state agen-
cies to offer the public an option to speak with a live agency represen-
tative
PURPOSE:
To have the option for the public to be able to speak to a live repre-
sentative at a state agency avoiding prompts
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Every department, bureau, board, commission, authority, agency or
instrumentality of the state to provide an initial option for a member
of the public to speak to a live representative in real time.
Any automated answering system used by a department, bureau, board,
commission, authority, or any other agency or instrumentality of the
state shall begin with an option to speak to a live representative prior
to directing the call through any other numeric prompts.
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation would make it easier for, individuals to contact state
agencies when they need assistance on a state related matter. All too
often, especially since the pandemic, you need to go through many
prompts and wait for an unreasonable amount of time only to be discon-
nected and having to start all over again.
