TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general business law, in relation to certain
provisions of online dating services
 
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment to L.2024, c.603, to provide technical
fixes, clarify the definition of fraud ban and establish data deletion
requirements.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by modifying the defi-
nition of fraud ban to include using a false identity, and adding
provisions allowing for the retention of data as required by law or to
comply with a judicial court order. The legislation additionally makes
technical fixes for clarity.
 
EXISTING LAW:
None.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.
 
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter amendment to Chapter 603 of the Laws of 2024. S.1759-B and
A.1057-C both passed the Senate and Assembly, respectfully, in January
and May 2024.
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a
chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the general business law, in
relation to certain provisions of online dating services, as proposed in
legislative bills numbers S.1759-B and A.1057-C, takes effect.
