TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public health law, in relation to Down syndrome
diagnosis awareness
 
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to L.2024, c.555, to
clarify provisions related to including Down Syndrome in the Health Care
and Wellness Education and Outreach Program.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This bill amends the underlying chapter by making technical changes to
better align the chapter with the other provisions of the Health Care
and Wellness Education and Outreach Program and ensure that the informa-
tion provided on Down Syndrome is available on the Department of
Health's Website. The bill also changes the effective date of the under-
lying chapter to 180 days after it becomes law.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.
 
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter amendment to Chapter 555 of the Laws of 2024. S.593-A and
A.4138-A both passed the Senate and Assembly during the 2024 Legislative
Session.
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
 
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately; provided, however, that section
one of this act shall take effect on the same date and in the same
manner as a chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the Public Health Law
relating to Down Syndrome diagnosis awareness, as proposed in legisla-
tive bills numbers S.593- A and A.4138-A, takes effect.
