TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the veterans' services law, in relation to the Alex R.
Jimenez New York state military immigrant family legacy program
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of L.2024,
c.625.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by expanding the defi-
nition of "intended recipients" of the Alex R. Jimenez New York Military
Immigrant Family Program to include additional relatives of a uniformed
service member, veteran, or reserve component member and clarifies that
their next-of-kin may request a grant of posthumous U.S. citizenship on
their behalf.
The legislation also amends the responsibilities of the program liaisons
and the office for new Americans (ONA) to conform to existing procedures
for delivering immigration services and includes a personally identify-
ing information protection clause.
The legislation also changes the reporting requirement contained in the
underlying chapter, requiring only a report on the number of intended
recipients referred to ONA through the program.

substituted by A.8837-C, and both the Assembly and Senate passed
A.8837-C in June 2024

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a
chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the veterans' services law, the
military law, and the executive law relating to establishing the Alex R.
Jimenez New York state military immigrant family legacy program, as
proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 8119-C and A. 8837-C, takes
effect.
