TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the election law, in relation to ballot drop-off
locations
PURPOSE OF BILL:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of Chapter
500 of the Laws of 2024.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by making technical
changes to include mail ballots.
JUSTIFICATION:
Pursuant to Approval Memo 17 of 2024, the Executive and Legislature have
reached agreement on technical amendments to the ballot drop box
provisions necessary to align with recent changes to early mail voting.
These changes ensure equitable access by permitting both absentee and
early mail ballots to be deposited in secure drop boxes managed by coun-
ty boards of elections.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS FOR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS:

EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a
chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the election law relating to
authorizing boards of elections to establish absentee ballot drop-off
locations, as proposed in legislative bills numbers S. 610 and A. 7243,
takes effect.
