TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to veterans tuition
awards program eligibility, and to amend a chapter of the laws of 2024
amending the education law relating to expanding eligibility under the
veterans tuition awards program, as proposed in legislative bills
numbers S. 8596-A and A. 9205-A, in relation to the effectiveness ther-
eof
 
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of L.2024
C.453 to expand Tuition Assistance Program Awards to veterans
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by amending the defi-
nition of qualifying veterans to those who have served in active duty
for at least four years. The legislation also excludes graduate educa-
tion from being eligible for tuition assistance award eligibility.
Finally, the legislation extends the effective date to July 1, 2025.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.
