TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the insurance law, in relation to coverage for prenatal
vitamins
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to L.2024, c.421, to
clarify provisions relating to commercial insurance coverage of prenatal
vitamins
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the underlying chapter by ensuring that the
coverage requirement would also apply to commercial insurance plans that
do not offer prescription coverage and remove cost-sharing provision.
Prenatal vitamins are considered preventative medicine by the U.S.
Preventative Service Task Force and therefore cannot be subject to cost-
sharing under the Affordable Care Act.
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter amendment to Chapter 421 of the Laws of 2024. S.1965A and
A.3864A both passed the Senate and Assembly during the 2024 Legislative
Session.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a
chapter of the laws of 2024 amending the Insurance Law relating to
coverage for prenatal vitamins, as proposed in legislative bills numbers
S.1965-A and A.3865-A, takes effect.
