TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to ADA or hand-
icapped parking at an arena
 
PURPOSE:
An act to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to ADA or hand-
icapped parking at an arena.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: amends the vehicle and traffic law by adding a new section
1203-g-1. This allows accessible parking spaces at stadiums, arenas,
ballparks, entertainment and sport venues. These parking spaces should
be located on the shortest accessible route to the entrance. As well
as, the lowest price charged for parking.
Section 2: Sets effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
In New York State we are putting an emphasis on improving accessibility
to public places for those with disabilities. It has been made clear
that accessible parking at stadiums, arenas, ballparks, entertainment
and sport venues is not in full compliance with the Americans with Disa-
bilities Act. Individuals that are handicapped should have access to
parking as close as possible to an entrance at an arena. They should not
be forced to park far away and pay premium, prices when they do not have
the same mobility as others.
