BILL NUMBER: S624
SPONSOR: SKOUFIS

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the village law, in relation to authorizing the village
of Greenwood Lake, county of Orange to allow golf carts on certain
streets

PURPOSE:
To authorize the village of Greenwood Lake to permit the use of golf
carts on certain streets within the village.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends the village law by adding a new section 6-634, which
authorizes the village of Greenwood Lake to permit the use of golf carts
on certain streets under the exclusive control and jurisdiction of the
village.
Section 2: Sets effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:
The village of Greenwood Lake requested this legislation for introduc-
tion in the 2024 Legislative Session. The village of Greenwood Lake is a
tranquil resort destination. As a small vacation community with an envi-
ronmentally conscious and pedestrian-focused footprint, transportation
is needed beyond the scope of traditional automobiles. Golf carts offer
an effective mode of transportation to save money during the spring and
summer seasons, along with freeing up parking at beaches and parks when
significant events occur. This legislation would permit the municipality
to use golf carts in the village for those wishing to travel throughout
the community via more sustainable and pedestrian-safe means.
