TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to the practice of
professional geology
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To allow engineering companies to receive certificates of authority to
practice geology.
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Amends subdivision 6 of section 7209 of the education law, as
amended by chapter 62 of the laws of 1989 to clarify that grandfathered
engineering companies that employ at least one officer or director
licensed as a professional geologists shall also be permitted to prac-
tice geology.
Section 2. Amends subdivisions 2 and 3 of section 7210 of the education
law, as amended by chapter 483 of the laws of 2001 to include profes-
sional geology services in the list of eligible entities.
Section 3. Sets forth an effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Allowing grandfathered engineering companies to receive certificates of
authority to practice geology was the intent of the original legislation
that provided for professional licensure of geologists. See Chapter
475, Approval 10, Nov. 21, 2014.
