SPONSOR: MARTINS
TITLE OF BILL:
An act in relation to removing library taxes of the Shelter Rock library
district from real property located in that portion of such library
district that is located within the Bryant library district
PURPOSE:
To allow homes that are currently being double taxed by the Shelter Rock
and Bryant Library district to only pay one library tax.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 Would prohibit the Shelter Rock library district from imposing
any library tax for the support of the library district which is also
located in the Bryant library district and paying the appropriate taxes
to Bryant library district.
Section 2 is the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
As constituted, the situation has arisen where the boundary lines for
the Bryant and Shelter Rock library District run through individual's
property. It has come to the attention that an individual is paying 100%
of the appropriate taxes for the Bryant Library District, as well as 50%
of taxes for the Shelter Rock library District. This situation amounts
to a double taxation that is problematic. This legislation seeks to
attempt to remedy this situation by ensuring a property taxpayer only
has to pay the appropriate amount of taxes.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
S.4745; Referred to Local Government
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None to the state
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall effect immediately and shall apply to assessment rolls
prepared on the basis of taxable status date occurring in or after such
date.
