TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to providing an income tax
credit for retired disabled police officers
PURPOSE:
To provide the provide an income tax credit for retired disabled police
officers.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends § 606 of the tax law by adding a new subsection provid-
ing the retired disabled police officer tax credit.
Section 2 states the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
Police officers serve their communities with selfless dedication and
sacrifice. On occasion, while on the job, an officer will be injured,
forcing an early retirement. Currently, New York State does not provide
tax relief to those officers who sacrificed their careers to protect
their communities. This bill will provide a $750 income tax credit for
retired, disabled police officers allowing the state to offer its grati-
tude to those who sacrificed.
