TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to extending the authorization
granted to the county of Essex to impose an additional one percent of
sales and compensating use taxes
 
PURPOSE:
This legislation extends Essex County's authority to impose an addi-
tional 1 percent of sales and compensating use tax.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 - Amends clause 36 of subparagraph (i) of the opening para-
graph of section 2010 od the tax law to extend Essex County's authority
to impose an additional 1 percent of sales and compensating use tax
through Nov. 30, 2027.
Section 2 - Provides effective date
 
JUSTIFICATION:
The additional 1 percent collected by Essex County generates revenue
that's vital for county operations.
Without these additional programs, important and necessary programs
could be slashed or property taxes could increase.
