TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general business law, in relation to certain
requirements regarding catalytic converter transactions
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To require certain information regarding the purchase and sale of a
catalytic converter to prevent thefts.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. The general business law is amended by adding a new section
392-k.
Section 392-k defines catalytic converters for the purpose of this bill;
and outlines the requirements of a seller and those required of a
purchaser of any catalytic converter.
Section 2 outlines the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
This bill seeks to stop theft and illegal sale of catalytic converters
statewide. By requiring certain information to be provided by a seller
at the time of a transaction, and a purchaser to maintain certain info-
mation, this will hinder thefts of catalytic converters and help police
track down any thefts.
