BILL NUMBER: S118A
SPONSOR: CLEARE
TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the elder law, in relation to the dissemination of
information pertaining to Alzheimer's disease and other forms of demen-
tia through the NY Connects: Choices for Long Term Care program
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
The purpose of this bill is to encourage the sharing of information
about programs and services that treat and support individuals with
Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill would require NY Connects: Choices for Long Term
Care program to include programs and services for individuals suffering
from Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
Section two would establish the effective date.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ORIGINAL AND AMENDED VERSION (IF APPLICABLE):
The A-print amendments would remove the provision for the State Office
for the Aging, in conjunction with the Department of Health, to estab-
lish a Dementia and Alzheimer's disease program database.
The A-print amendments would add a requirement for the Office to include
programs and services for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's disease
or other forms of dementia in their NY Connects: Choices for Long Term
Care program.
JUSTIFICATION:
There are many programs across the state that are designed to assist and
support individuals with Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Innovative
ideas are implemented at the local level, but it is difficult for groups
in other areas of the state to find out about them. Information about
these innovative and successful programs should be available through the
NY Connects program so that their success can be replicated in other
areas.
