TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the social services law, in relation to capping the
monthly maximum payment for hotel rooms to house homeless persons
 
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this legislation is to set payment standards for
contracting with hotels to provide rooms as shelter for home less popu-
lations.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one amends the social services law by adding a new section 43-a,
which sets the payment rate for hotel rooms that will be used to provide
shelter for homeless populations to 75% of the NYCHA Section 8 voucher
payment standard for a studio apartment pro-rated daily. Additionally,
any contracts with hotels to provide shelter for homeless families will
be 75% of the NYCHA Section 8 voucher payment for an apartment of appro-
priate housing pro-rated daily. This act shall not apply to hotels
contracted south of 96th St, Community Boards 1 and 2 located in Kings
County, Community Boards 1 and 2 located in Queens County, or during a
declared national, state, or local public health emergency.
Section two establishes the effective date.
