TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the tax law, in relation to authorizing the town of
Ramapo to impose a hotel and motel tax; and providing for the repeal of
such provisions upon expiration thereof
 
PURPOSE:
This bill will allow the Town of Ramapo to adopt and amend local laws to
impose a tax on hotel or motel rooms within the Town of Ramapo.
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1. Amends the tax law by adding new section 12024j, to authorize
and empower the Town of Ramapo to adopt and amend local laws imposing
hotel/motel tax of 5%, setting forth the process of collection and
administration of same and whom shall be liable to pay such taxes.
Section 2. Sets forth the effective date and sunset provision thereto.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
All revenues resulting from the imposition of this tax will be paid into
the treasury of Ramapo and credited to the town's general fund, thereby
allowing the town to provide more services to the residents of Ramapo.
