BILL NUMBER: S9336A
SPONSOR: LIU

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the education law, in relation to allowing the president
of the citywide council on high schools to participate in the selection
of the members of the board of education elected by the community
district education council presidents

SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
Section 1 amends the education law to allow the president of the city-
wide council on high schools to participate in the selection of the
members of the board of education elected by the community district
education council presidents
Section 2 provides the effective date

JUSTIFICATION:
The Citywide Council on High Schools (CCHS) advocates for approximately
320,000 NYC high school students and their families. While the other
education councils have a direct or indirect presence on the Panel for
Education Policy, the parents of high school students lack this repre-
sentation.
This bill would allow CCHS, a voice for almost one-third of the students
in the NYC education system, to participate in the election of the PEP
parent representatives.
