BILL NUMBER: S8630
SPONSOR: STEWART-COUSINS
TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend chapter 334 of the laws of 2012 relating to authorizing
the town of Greenburgh, county of Westchester to lease certain park
lands for tennis uses, in relation to the definition of tennis facili-
ties
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this bill is to expand the definition of "tennis facili-
ties" in relation to its use in the existing law.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1 of the bill amends section 1 of chapter 334 of the laws of
2012, which permits the Town of Greenburgh to lease the area around its
tennis courts at Anthony F. Veteran Park to construct a removable tennis
bubble over the tennis courts so the facilities can operate year round.
This bill defines the use of "tennis facilities" in the existing law as
places that provide programming and services related to tennis and other
sports which require the use of racquets or paddles to strike balls or
objects.
Section 2 is the effective date.
JUSTIFICATION:
In recent years, there has been an increased interest in racquet and
paddle sports, including but not limited to pickleball, nationwide.
This has led to the construction of new racquet and paddle sport facili-
ties across New York State, as well as the retrofitting of existing
tennis facilities to accommodate other racquet and paddle sports. This
bill expands the definition of "tennis facilities" in existing law to
ensure that the Town of Greenburgh can meet the recreational needs of
its residents and visitors if it chooses to construct a tennis dome
around its tennis courts for all-season play.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
This is a new bill.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None.
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect immediately
