JUSTIFICATION:
With New York State's decision to rapidly move away from clean natural
gas and other energy sources, the unfortunate reality is that there are
some issues with the efforts to comply with the CLCPA (Climate Leader-
ship and Community Protection Act) and that may impact every day New
Yorkers. Many in the energy industry have expressed serious concerns
that the cost estimates associated with the CLCPA mandates have been
woefully short of the true cost to consumers, business and school
districts and that the current energy infrastructure will be unable to
handle demand that the CLPCA will put on it.
Due to these concerns, and others, our state must take immediate steps
to ensure we are allowing for the best fuel options for the vehicles of
this state.
This task force will examine and evaluate the use of hydrogen fuel cell
vehicles, identify the potential effects of expanding hydrogen fuel cell
vehicles.
With the mandate put forth by this state for EV sales for residential
and commercial vehicles and the mandate that has been put on our school
districts. We must as a state give them the options that are best for
them. Only the School District, business and the residents of this state
know what is best for their needs. We cannot put this financial burden
on the people of this state in the current economy. This task force will
show how hydrogen fuel cells can be another source of fuel that is clean
and affordable.
