TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the general business law, in relation to authorizing
cellular phone companies to provide notice of bills to third parties at
the request of the customer
PURPOSE:
This is a chapter amendment that makes changes to provisions of L.2023,
c.737, to require cellular corporations, telegraph and telephone corpo-
rations, and cable television corporations to provide notice of bills to
third parties upon customer's authorization.
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
This legislation amends the public service and the general business law
to comply with all requirements related to the protection of customer
proprietary network information contained in the federal communications
act of 1934 (47 U.S.C. 222) and any federal regulations adopted under
that authority.
JUSTIFICATION:
This legislation is a negotiated change to the underlying chapter.
LEGISLATIVE HISTORY:
Chapter Amendment to Chapter 737 of the Laws of 2023. S.406A and A.1368A
passed the Senate and the Assembly in May 2023.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
None
EFFECTIVE DATE:
This act shall take effect 180 days after becoming law; This act shall
take effect on the same date and in the same manner as a chapter of the
laws of 2023 amending the public service and general business law relat-
ing to third party notification, as proposed in legislative bills
numbers S.406A and A.1368A, takes effect.
