BILL NUMBER: S7811
SPONSOR: CANZONERI-FITZPATRICK

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the social services law, in relation to the health care
and mental hygiene worker bonuses

PURPOSE:
To include parents of a minor child with an intellectual or develop-
mental disability who care for such child in the health care and mental
hygiene worker bonuses.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section 1: Amends the social services law to include any parent or
parent of a minor who cares for such minor child with an intellectual or
developmental disability in definition of "employee" for the purposes of
the health care and mental hygiene worker bonuses.

JUSTIFICATION:
Parents who have had to act as caregivers were not included in the
health care and mental hygiene worker bonuses, yet these individuals
were the first to be caring for Covid positive individuals before we
even knew the extent of how this pandemic would affect every aspect of
our lives. They were in their own homes acting as closely to healthcare
workers as they could, caring for those that were closest to them who
needed special assistance that could not be made available during the
chaos of the pandemic. These New Yorkers risked their own health to take
care of our vulnerable populations and deserve their space alongside
those titles previously mentioned for this bonus.
