BILL NUMBER: S3285A
SPONSOR: THOMAS

TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the public health law, in relation to children's non-re-
gulated camps

PURPOSE:
To require all unregulated children's camps in the state to annually
register with the department of health.

SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Section one of the bill adds a new section 1408 to the public health law
as it relates to requiring all unregulated children's camps to register
with the Department of Health, including information on the location of
the non-regulated camp and the number of children that attended the camp
in the prior calendar year. It sets a registration fee of $250 for all
non-charitable or philanthropic camps.
Section two of the bill contains the effective date.

JUSTIFICATION:
Some camps are not required to be certified by the Department of Health
in order to operate. This bill will correct that oversight by requiring
such camps to register with the department of health, thus bringing them
under a more coherent and complete safety and compliance oversight
regime.
