TITLE OF BILL:
An act to amend the criminal procedure law, in relation to granting
peace officer status to officers and members of the security force of
Arnot Health, Inc.
 
PURPOSE OR GENERAL IDEA OF BILL:
To grant peace officer status to a subset of Arnot Health public safety
officers.
 
SUMMARY OF SPECIFIC PROVISIONS:
(1) Modifies section 2.10 of the criminal procedure law, as amended by
adding a new subdivision 86
(2) Establishes the geographical area where security officers of Arnot
health have authority to function as peace officers Section 2
(1) States the effective date.
 
JUSTIFICATION:
In April 2021 Arnot Health along with the Chemung County Legislature
sent formal requests, asking that Arnot Health public safety officers be
given the designation of peace officers. This legislation will allow
them to better provide security for the county's largest acute care
hospital.
