Existing law authorizes a court to suspend a sentence, place a defendant on probation and extend or terminate a period of probation or suspension of sentence. (NRS 176A.100, 176A.500) Section 1 of this bill requires any period of probation or suspension of sentence ordered by a court to run concurrently, not consecutively, with any other period of probation or suspension of sentence ordered by the court.
Existing law requires that a person who is sentenced to serve a period of probation for a felony or gross misdemeanor be allowed for the period of probation a deduction of a certain number of days from that period for each month served if the person complies with certain conditions. (NRS 176A.500) Section 1 clarifies that those deductions apply regardless of whether the period of probation is fixed or indeterminate.
