Existing law requires the Department of Health and Human Services to administer the Medicaid program. (NRS 422.270) This bill requires the Department to: (1) determine which services covered under Medicaid are provided primarily to children with cancer or serious diseases that predominantly affect children; and (2) submit to the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services a request to increase the rate of reimbursement under Medicaid for those services by at least 10 percent. This bill also requires the Department to: (1) determine which of the services provided primarily to children with cancer or serious diseases that predominantly affect children are provided by types of specialist providers of health care for which there is a shortage in this State; and (2) request to increase the rate of reimbursement for those services by at least an additional 10 percent.
