The Juvenile Justice Programs Office (JJPO) is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA) which includes compliance with the four core requirements: 1) Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders, 2) Sight and Sound Separation, 3) Jail Removal, and 4) reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the Juvenile Justice System. The JJPO provides, oversees, and monitors federal and state grant funds to local governmental entities and private non-profit organizations. This includes providing technical assistance to grantees and conducting quality assurance reviews of grant programs. Further, the JJPO ensures compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) within state juvenile correctional facilities. Lastly, the JJPO gathers, analyzes, and reports on statewide juvenile justice data based on federal and state requirements, and provides administrative support for the state juvenile correctional facilities and the Youth Parole Bureau (YBP) through grant management, data management, and policy development.
