The State Independent Living Council (SILC) serves as an advocacy group for promoting the Independent Living philosophy, giving individuals choice and control over the services they receive. The purpose is to promote a philosophy of independency within the context of consumer control, peer support, self-help, self-determination, equal access, and individual and system advocacy. The goal is to maximize the leadership, empowerment, independence and productivity of individuals with disabilities, and the integration and full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into their communities. The SILC is established as an autonomous entity within the state. Aging and Disability Services currently serves as the Designated State Entity.
