The purpose of the Emission Control Program is to ensure that vehicles comply with Nevada's laws and regulations regarding emission standards. The division carries out its duties by licensing and regulating emission stations and inspectors in Clark and Washoe counties. Staff conduct overt and covert audits and inspections of licensed emission stations, investigate program evaders, patrol Nevada's roadways to detect smoking vehicles, and apply appropriate sanctions against program violators. The division cooperates with various planning agencies involved in air quality standards to evaluate Nevada's Air Quality Attainment. The division is also a core member of the Inspection and Maintenance Advisory Committee, which receives feedback from the motor vehicle industry.
