Existing law authorizes an Indian tribe to submit a request to a county or city clerk to establish a polling place or ballot drop box within the boundaries of an Indian reservation or Indian colony on the day of an election or for early voting. (NRS 293.2733, 293.3572, 293C.2675, 293C.3572) Sections 2 and 4 of this bill require each county and city clerk to schedule certain meetings with each Indian tribe located in whole or in part within the county or city to discuss certain details relating to the next regularly scheduled election cycle. Existing law requires the Secretary of State to establish a system of approved electronic transmission through which certain military and overseas voters and electors and registered voters with a disability may register to vote, apply for a ballot and cast a ballot. (NRS 293.269951, 293D.200) Section 3.5 of this bill requires the Secretary of State to allow electors and registered voters who are tribal members and who reside on an Indian reservation or Indian colony to register to vote and apply for and cast a ballot using the system of approved electronic transmission.
