The bill establishes a new "career technical externship program" within the workforce solutions department aimed at providing professional development for public school teachers and community college faculty. The workforce solutions department will work in collaboration with the public education department and community college faculty to design the externship program, including the application process and criteria for selecting extern candidates.

Additionally, the bill includes an appropriation of $250,000 from the general fund for the implementation and administration of the externship program in fiscal year 2027. Any funds that remain unspent at the end of that fiscal year will revert back to the general fund.
