This bill appropriates funds to enhance community outreach and law enforcement training related to the Turquoise, Amber, Brittany, and Silver Alert systems in New Mexico. Specifically, it allocates $1,000,000 from the general fund to the Department of Public Safety for the modernization of statewide operations and systems for these alert systems, as well as for endangered and missing persons advisories. Additionally, it provides $300,000 for the hiring of two full-time employees: one to serve as a tribal liaison analyst for the missing persons information clearinghouse and another to work on developing a dedicated portal for endangered and missing persons.
Furthermore, the bill designates $250,000 to the Indian Affairs Department for a statewide outreach and public service campaign aimed at increasing community awareness and understanding of the Turquoise Alert system, improving response efficacy, and strengthening public trust. Any unspent funds from these appropriations at the end of fiscal year 2027 will revert back to the general fund.
