This bill appropriates $100,000 from the general fund to the Children, Youth and Families Department for the fiscal years 2027 and 2028. The funds are designated for the department to report on a weekly basis to the Office of Child Advocate and on a monthly basis to several legislative committees, including the appropriate interim committee dealing with courts, corrections, and justice, the Legislative Health and Human Services Committee, and the Legislative Finance Committee. The reports will focus on children in custody who have been required to stay overnight in an office, detailing the total number of such children, the reasons for their overnight stays, the duration of these stays, and their current status or resolution of placement.

Additionally, the bill stipulates that any unexpended balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2028 shall revert to the general fund. This measure aims to enhance oversight and accountability regarding the treatment of children in custody, ensuring that relevant legislative bodies are informed about the circumstances surrounding these children’s overnight stays in offices.
