This bill amends Section 32A-3A-12 of the New Mexico Statutes to extend benefits previously available to foster families to include adopted children. Specifically, it provides that adopted children, along with foster parents and children in foster care, young adults in the fostering connections program, and children in custody of the state or tribal authorities, will receive free admission to state-owned museums and parks, camping passes for up to three nights, and fishing licenses. The eligibility for these benefits requires proof of identity, residency, and status as one of the specified categories.
Additionally, the bill introduces a definition for "adopted child," specifying that it refers to individuals under the age of eighteen who were adopted while in the custody of the department or by a licensed entity authorized to place children for adoption. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
