The bill amends the Horse Racing Act to establish new requirements for racetracks to maintain their gaming operator's licenses. It introduces a minimum length for race meets, stipulating that a race meet must last at least fifteen weeks. Additionally, it specifies the number of live race days required based on the racetrack's gaming tax contributions from the previous fiscal year. Specifically, racetracks that paid gaming tax of $8 million or less must conduct three live race days per week with at least ten races each day, while those that paid more than $8 million must conduct four live race days per week with at least nine races each day.
Furthermore, the bill mandates that there should be no more than a three-day gap between the end of one racetrack's race meet and the start of another's. This aims to ensure continuous live racing opportunities and maintain the viability of the horse racing industry in New Mexico. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
