This bill proposes an appropriation of one million dollars ($1,000,000) from the general fund to the New Mexico State Department of Justice for the fiscal year 2026. The funds are designated for the development of a public relations campaign aimed at informing New Mexico residents about their rights in situations involving potential deportation or harassment by federal immigration officers.

Additionally, the campaign will include the establishment of an identification system for members of Indian nations, tribes, and pueblos, which will serve to verify tribal membership. A telephone hotline will also be created to assist individuals in verifying their citizenship status. Any funds that remain unspent or uncommitted at the end of fiscal year 2026 will revert back to the general fund.
