This bill enacts a new section of the Motor Vehicle Code to create a New Mexico United special registration plate, which signifies support for the New Mexico United soccer team. The plate will feature a specific logo and a design similar to the state's chile vehicle registration plates. Vehicle owners can apply for this special plate for an initial fee of $50, in addition to regular registration fees, with an annual renewal fee of $20. The revenue generated from these fees will be allocated to cover the costs of issuing the plates and to promote sports-related tourism through the tourism department.

Additionally, the bill establishes criteria for the cessation of the issuance of these special plates. Starting July 1, 2028, the department will compare the number of plates issued or renewed in the previous fiscal year to the average from fiscal years 2026 and 2027. If the number falls below 50% of that average in fiscal year 2029 or later, the department will cease the issuance of the New Mexico United special registration plates. The provisions of this act will take effect on July 1, 2025.
