This bill proposes to declare February 10, 2025, as "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" in the House of Representatives of New Mexico. The resolution acknowledges the vital role that law enforcement officers play in serving various communities across the state, including municipalities, counties, universities, tribes, and the state itself. It highlights the challenges faced by these officers, such as dangerous working conditions, mental and physical health issues, and resource shortages within law enforcement agencies.
Furthermore, the resolution calls for copies of the memorial to be distributed to key stakeholders, including the chief of the New Mexico state police, the executive director of the New Mexico sheriffs' association, and various police and sheriff's departments, including those of New Mexico's Indian nations, tribes, and pueblos, as well as the federal bureau of Indian affairs. This initiative aims to recognize and appreciate the contributions and sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel in New Mexico.
