The "Seizure Safe Schools Act" is a newly enacted legislation aimed at improving the management and care of students with seizure disorders in schools. It establishes definitions for key terms such as "governing body," "school," "school employee," and "seizure action plan." The Act mandates that by December 31, 2025, the Department of Education will develop rules for training school employees and bus drivers on recognizing and responding to seizure disorders. Each school must ensure that at least two trained personnel are available to provide care for students with seizure disorders, and a seizure action plan must be submitted by the parents or guardians of affected students.

Additionally, the Act provides immunity from civil or professional liability for school employees, including nurses and bus drivers, who act in accordance with the provisions of the Act. It clarifies that the care provided by trained seizure care personnel does not constitute the practice of nursing and does not diminish the rights of students with seizure disorders under existing federal laws. The legislation emphasizes the importance of training and preparedness in schools to ensure the safety and well-being of students with seizure disorders.
