This bill mandates the New Jersey Department of Agriculture to create and disseminate guidance on shellfish aquaculture agritourism, in collaboration with various state agencies, including the Aquaculture Advisory Council and the Bureau of Marine Water Monitoring. The guidance must adhere to all relevant federal, state, and local regulations concerning both aquaculture and agritourism. It will cover a range of topics aimed at supporting the shellfish aquaculture agritourism industry, such as compliance with farming and food safety standards, species diversification, handling requirements, providing experiential learning opportunities, market access, workforce development, financing options, and navigating applicable laws and regulations.
Additionally, the Department of Agriculture is required to publish this guidance on its website and ensure that it is sent annually via email to all holders of shellfish dealer certifications and aquatic farmer licenses under the New Jersey Aquaculture Development Act. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
