This bill establishes the Age-Friendly State Advisory Council within the New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS) to coordinate efforts across various sectors, including government, nonprofits, and businesses, to implement the 2024 Age-Friendly Blueprint for New Jersey. The council will consist of 15 members, including state commissioners and public members with expertise or experience related to aging. Its primary responsibilities include overseeing the execution of the blueprint's recommendations, engaging with community stakeholders, identifying collaboration opportunities, and making budget and policy recommendations to ensure equitable outcomes for older adults.
Additionally, the bill creates the New Jersey Age-Friendly Grants Program, which will provide competitive grants of up to $80,000 to municipalities and organizations to support age-friendly initiatives and projects. The DHS Commissioner will oversee the grant application process and provide technical assistance to applicants. Grant recipients will be required to report annually on their outcomes and performance data. The council and the commissioner will also provide annual reports to the Governor and Legislature on their activities and the use of grant funding, ensuring transparency and accountability in advancing age-friendly initiatives in the state.
