This bill mandates that various health insurance providers, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, individual and group health insurance policies, health benefits plans, and health maintenance organizations, must cover sepsis-related services and treatment claims deemed medically necessary by the physician of the covered person. The coverage must be provided to the same extent as for any other medical condition under the respective contracts or policies. This requirement applies to contracts that are delivered, issued, executed, or renewed in New Jersey on or after the effective date of the act.

Additionally, the bill specifies that the State Health Benefits Commission and the School Employees Health Benefits Commission must ensure that all contracts purchased by them after the effective date also include coverage for sepsis-related claims. The act is set to take effect 180 days after its enactment, ensuring that all relevant contracts adhere to these new coverage requirements.
