The bill establishes a Rest Stop Tourism Display Program within the Division of Travel and Tourism in the Department of State. This program aims to promote tourism attractions and locations near highway rest stops by coordinating with the Department of Transportation, the South Jersey Transportation Authority, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, destination marketing organizations, and businesses. The displays will be temporary, with their duration determined by the division and the relevant transportation authority. They may include informational exhibits, free materials for visitors, and items sold by local tourism businesses.
Additionally, the bill allows destination marketing organizations and businesses to propose the installation of these displays at highway rest stops. The Division of Travel and Tourism is tasked with publishing application information on its website. Furthermore, it mandates that every six months, the South Jersey Transportation Authority and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority must provide the Department of Transportation and the Division of Travel and Tourism with a list of planned and existing displays for the upcoming six months. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
