This bill allows individuals who have a driver's license indicating hearing impairment to apply for a windshield placard from the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. The placard will feature the international symbol of the deaf and must be displayed on the vehicle in a manner determined by the chief administrator. Importantly, there will be no fee for obtaining this placard.
Additionally, the bill clarifies that while the placard is available for use, it does not grant parking privileges typically reserved for persons with disabilities unless the individual is already eligible for such privileges and possesses the appropriate placard as per existing laws. The bill is set to take effect on the first day of the thirteenth month following its enactment, with provisions for the chief administrator to undertake necessary administrative actions for its implementation.
