This bill establishes a registration requirement for mold inspection and remediation contractors in New Jersey. It mandates that no individual may perform mold inspection or remediation work unless they are registered with the Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs. The bill introduces new definitions related to mold, including "mold," "mold inspection," "mold inspection and remediation contractor," and "mold remediation or abatement work." Additionally, it requires annual registration, the submission of an application with a fee, and proof of commercial general liability insurance for contractors not otherwise required to have it.

The legislation also prohibits contractors from conducting both mold inspections and remediation work at the same premises, imposing civil penalties for violations. A first offense for performing both types of work at the same location could result in a penalty of up to $5,000, while subsequent offenses could lead to revocation of registration. Other violations of the bill's provisions could incur penalties of up to $10,000 for repeat offenses. Furthermore, making false statements during the registration process could result in significant fines ranging from $10,000 to $25,000. The bill is set to take effect 60 days after enactment.
