This bill authorizes employees of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to take a leave of absence during ordered military duty and under certain conditions as members or volunteer members of organized militia or reserve forces of the United States Armed Forces. The leave of absence will not interrupt continuous employment, and employees will not face any loss of service time, vacation, or other privileges due to their absence. Employees are entitled to receive their salary or compensation during their military leave, limited to a maximum of 30 days or 22 working days in a calendar year, and for specific health care-related services if they have served in a combat zone.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that required contributions to pension or retirement systems will be deducted from employees' salaries during their military leave. If the contributions exceed the salary during this period, employees can pay the difference. They also have the option to make contributions for any time they were absent due to military duty, which will count towards their total service in the pension system. The bill will only take effect once similar legislation is enacted in New York.
